Belarus
BELARUS IN SPRING
In May 2014 I visited Belarus along with eleven other birdwatchers, as well as both an English & Belarussian leader. Belarus lies between Poland and the Russian Federation and its main airport is in Minsk. At the time of my visit a Visa was required, costing £75, but this has now changed & you no longer require one.
My main reason for going was to hopefully photograph some new species such as, Azure Tit, Black, Middle & White-backed Woodpeckers, Citrine Wagtail, lekking Great Snipe, Ruff in breeding plumage, Great Grey Owl and the globally threatened Aquatic Warbler.
One of the mammals that I had hoped for was the European Bison, but unfortunately this was not to be. However, I did mange to see & photograph probably the rarest animal there, a Northern Lynx. That was special.
This talk is only 40mins and can be combined with either Northern Norway or Churchill for a longer show.
