THE CANADIAN ROCKIES

During the autumn of 2006, I flew to Calgary and spent three weeks travelling from Banff to Jasper & back again in the hope of photographing some of the wildlife.

I booked the Air Canada flights & Avis car hire in the UK. Before my arrival it had snowed, so although I had booked a small car, I found that I was given an automatic upgrade, free of charge, due to the possible weather conditions. I am not saying this would always work, but if I went again, I would book a small car & hope to get the same deal as upgrading on arrival is often possible.

Some of the scenery, including snow-capped mountains, lake reflections along with turquoise coloured water, were breath-taking. Quite often wildlife, especially Elk, would wander aimlessly along the highway causing traffic to stop either to watch or to photograph them. By constantly looking ahead for other cars brake lights, I was able to speed up for another photographic opportunity. Throughout the trip there were both resident & migrant birds.
