Florida “The Everglades”
In January 2023 my friend (also a wildlife photographer) & I flew to Miami for twelve days of photography. This talk covers the first six days in the Everglades area and part of the Tamiami trail. A weekly pass for entry to the everglades is $30.
The main places to visit are Royal Palm (Anhinga Trail) and Flamingo, although you will find other areas as you drive along the 9336 road, after leaving the outskirts of Miami. We also drove down to Key Largo, which is on the main highway down to the Florida Keys, to photograph Brown Pelicans and Manatees. On the way back we discovered an Osprey's nest very close to the road.
It is amazing how the wildlife is unconcerned with people walking past. The Alligators often sit on the edge of the bank or even on the tarmac footway. The paths and boardwalks are just a few feet away from the water, allowing incredibly close photo opportunities of the birds. The following six days of this trip are in a second talk called Florida "The Southwest & Miramar Regions".
