Florida “The Southwest & Miramar Regions”
This talk covers the second six days of my trip in January 2023. We spent four days in the Naples/Fort Myers area and also visited part of the Tamiami Trail and several other nature reserves. The final two days were in Miramar, on the outskirts of Miami.
Naples/Fort Myers is ideal for the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary (Audubon Centre) and Sanibel, for the J "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, which at the time turned out to be closed, having been devastated by "Hurricane Ian" the previous year. Other areas visited include the Six Mile Cypress Slough, Harns Marsh and the Crew Bird Rookery Swamp. For the final two days in Miramar, we visited part of the Tamiami Trail and the Chapel Trail Nature Preserve.
The close views of the birds made photography so easy, unlike anywhere else I have been, unless I was in a special photographic hide.
