French Pyrenees
THE FRENCH PYRENEES
In June 2017 I boarded the ferry from Portsmouth to Caen with my motorhome to visit a friend, who lives in the small village of Roubia, situated on the Canal du Midi between Narbonne & Carcassonne.
After spending a few days in his local area, we decided to take the motorhome to the Pyrenees for five days. There is a campsite on the outskirts of Gavarnie, which makes an excellent base for exploring this area. Places to visit include the Ossoue Valley, Barrage des Gloriettes, Cirque de Troumouse, Col des Tentes, Col du Tourmalet (where the Tour de France is held), Cirque d’Estaube & of course the Cirque de Gavarnie.
In 2018 I was in Barcelona for the last two weeks of May, playing hockey for England veterans in the Veterans World Cup. I had driven to Barcelona so that I could come back over from Spain into the French Pyrenees & spend the next ten days in Gavarnie once again. This is an excellent time of year for many butterflies not seen in the UK. Some birds, animals & scenery are also included.
