MONTEREY BAY

In September 2016 I went to Monterey Bay hoping to photograph Humpback Whales & possibly even to see a Blue Whale. Five boat trips were taken during the eight-day trip. Birds seen from the boat included, Brown Pelican, California & Heerman’s Gulls, Pink-footed Shearwaters from Chile & Sooty Shearwaters flying here from New Zealand.       A variety of waders including American Whimbrel, Long-billed Curlew, Willet & more. Also, there were Great Blue Herons along with Snowy Egrets.   Sea Otters with their pups entertained. Numerous birds were seen around our accommodation including Acorn Woodpeckers, Anna’s Hummingbirds & Red-shouldered Hawk. A few butterflies seen included Monarchs, Common Buckeye & various skippers.
