Swiss Alps
THE SWISS ALPS
I went to the Swiss Alps in June 2010 for eight days, staying in a typical small mountain village. Some houses had cattle living on the ground floor with the locals living upstairs. The small meadows, dotted amongst the houses, were amazing. At times, the women would be cutting these in the old-fashioned way with scythes, then raking up the grass into mini stacks. Life here was completely different to back home in the UK. Travelling daily into the valleys & hills would depend on the weather at the time. Photographing alpine mountain scenery, birds, butterflies, mammals & plants is a very enjoyable way to spend time.
Nutcracker, Alpine Chough, Crested Tit, White-winged Snowfinch, Alpine Accentor, Serin & more. Not to forget the Gornergrat funicular railway at Zermatt. As it slowly ascends to the top of the Gornergrat, you can see the Matterhorn through the trees & when you get to the top you get a clear view of the famous mountain. In July 2013 I went on a butterfly trip to the Wengen region & images from this trip are also included in the talk.
