Ultima Frontera a Photographic Trip
ULTIMA FRONTERA RESERVE - Romania
In June 2017 I went on a photographic trip to this reserve, which is run by Skua Nature & there are a total of 32 hides spread over an exceptionally large area. There are also some electric golf buggies for those who wish to travel around the reserve as another option, which I did on several occasions. After flying to Bucharest, overnight hotel, then mini-bus journey to Tulcea, a one & a half hour boat journey down the Danube, we had eventually arrived. Landrovers were waiting to take us to the main centre.
Each day starts at 5am onwards, depending on which hide you are going to, then back for lunch before going out again after 4pm, away from the midday heat. Except for mad dogs & Englishmen, that was me, so I would go out in a buggy.
Two boat trips are also included, one to the Matita & Merhel Lagoons and the other to the edge of the Black Sea where the Pallas’s Gulls breed. For anyone who is interested, there is a Wildcat hide, available from 10.30pm, if you can stay awake. I got my pictures at about midnight, then drove my buggy back to the lodgings in order to get up again at 5am. An utterly amazing place.
